MusicFest Returns To Help Families Rebuild Lives

Fundraiser for Refuge House Seeks Sponsors and Volunteers

(Tallahassee, FL / July 21, 2010) What started as one woman’s thank you to a local domestic violence shelter has quickly become a community-wide event.

“So many talented people came together last year to create my vision,” said Linda Collins, who launched the event to benefit Refuge House, the domestic and sexual violence center for Leon and seven neighboring counties in North Florida.

Collins, a survivor of domestic abuse and passionate advocate of the Refuge House, says Refuge House saved her life when she and her children came to them for help 15 years ago.  When she created MusicFest in 2009 as a way to give back, she had no idea it would be attended by nearly 1,000 people and raise $18,345.

“I was amazed at the outpouring of support from local businesses and media,” said Collins.  “We hope that support continues this year.”

“The last year has really stretched our resources,” said Meg Baldwin, Executive Director of Refuge House.  “Funds raised at this event will help us serve more women, children and men struggling to overcome domestic violence.”

The MusicFest steering committee is looking to the community for volunteers, sponsors and donations for this year’s event.  For more information on becoming a sponsor or a volunteer, please email MusicFest@Unity-Eastside.org.
