Why Sponsor?
Dear Friend:
We are asking for your help in supporting a vital cause! MusicFest 2010: Sounds of Hope, A Benefit for Refuge House, will take place on Sunday, October 17, 2010. Unity Eastside and community friends will present this event from noon to 5:00 p.m. on the beautiful grounds of Unity Eastside Church, 8551 Buck Lake Road, Tallahassee. Proceeds will help Refuge House continue to provide essential services to local women and children affected by domestic or sexual violence.
In the current economic climate, more people are suffering financial hardship, and incidents of domestic violence have increased. The Florida Coalition Against Domestic Violence recently reported a 37% increase in the demand for emergency shelter services! The increased need for services means that the resources of Refuge House are stretched thin.
Last year Refuge House served 5,373 clients in 8 counties! In part, Refuge House provided:
- safe shelter to 422 women and children escaping abuse,
- hotline crisis intervention and safety planning to 2,247 callers, and
- supportive counseling in the aftermath of violence to 1,274 children and adults.
Author Connie May Fowler said that Refuge House “help[s] countless victims of domestic violence and their children throughout our region, and they do so with a grace and professionalism that is breathtaking. MusicFest is helping Refuge House continue its mission to end domestic violence in our community."
